Data Mesh Control Plane & Batch Compute


The Data Mesh Control Plane team provides a mesh-level orchestration framework that enables data pipelines, data assets, and processes to run on various trigger conditions (e.g., fixed schedules or based on data freshness requirements. The team provides a unified control plane to manage the lifecycle (e.g., deploy, update, start, and stop) of data processes.The Batch Compute team provides batch job execution as a serverless experience for users (i.e., infrastructure concerns are abstracted-away from users by default).

The team provides support for Spark, Python model scoring, and SQL execution as a service as well as extension for other runtime environments.Both teams are focused on enabling Nubank’s transformation to a decentralized, data mesh-style model (in progress) and supporting the company’s growth in a smart-efficient way.

About the role


The Nubank data platform is colossal and evolving toward a decentralized model rooted in the data mesh paradigm. As a Technical Product Manager, your goal will be to deeply understand the existing data pipeline orchestration and execution environment users are provided at Nubank and identify opportunities to enhance user experience and platform efficiency.

Key Responsibilities


  • Develop a deep understanding of users and stakeholders by conducting research, data analysis, and interviews;

  • Define, prioritize, and communicate short and long-term product goals - mostly through written communication;
  • Develop long-term strategies for your team’s products - motivate and align your team around a shared vision;
  • Work closely with engineering and other functions (e.g., data science, data engineers, analytical engineers), to specify and refine requirements for products from inception to launch;
  • Competitive awareness - stay up to date with industry trends and map potential tools enhance user and team productivity; conduct build vs. buy analyses;
  • Serve as a team advocate by communicating with stakeholders and connecting the strategy of your team(s) to the broader Nubank strategy;

Desired skills and competencies


  • Experience working with data engineering products as a Product Manager and/or data platform power user (e.g., analytics engineer) with PM competencies. Prior engineering experience, particularly in infrastructure, is a plus;
  • Proven track record of owning and supporting the entire product life cycle of successful technical products.
  • Previous success working efficiently in multiple scopes or domains simultaneously.
  • Strong desire to identify and meet the needs of users.
  • Comfortable working independently with numerical data, gathering insights, and making data-driven decisions.
  • Ability to transform incomplete, conflicting, and/or ambiguous inputs into a clear strategy.
  • Proven experience developing long-term strategies and being able to deliver on them via well-defined roadmaps.
  • Opinionated about the next important item to work on and being able to do so while balancing team health and business outcome.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
  • Well organized with attention to detail.
  • Advanced proficiency in the English language.
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
  • Stakeholder management - proven ability to create clarity and alignment with stakeholders and explain complex (technical) concepts in simple language
