Role Overview:
As a Principal Applications Engineer, you will be responsible for rigorously evaluating solution designs and ensuring technical correctness. You will report to engineering and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and deliver solutions consisting of conveyor, sorting machines, robots, and other automation equipment. You will serve as a liaison between the core product engineering team, the go-to-market team, and our operations team to ensure that BG’s products are integrated into high-performance solutions that delight our customers. This is a new team at BG, so you will also be responsible for helping to build the team, building relationships with other teams and stakeholders, and helping define new processes and workflows. An entrepreneurial mindset and cross disciplinary problem solving will be important to success in this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Represent product engineering for the full lifecycle of a project, from pre-sales system design through implementation and handoff to the customer.
- Collaborate with product engineering, product management, sales, operations, and other stakeholders to develop and refine system-level designs and solutions.
- Analyze system performance, identify potential issues, and develop mitigation strategies to ensure system reliability and robustness.
- Communicate, build consensus, and maintain continuity of technical ownership within a large and varied group of stakeholders, including vendors, partners, customers, and other internal departments.
- Manage simulation efforts to validate performance of different sized systems, from new features to entire building systems.
- Certifying that sites achieve design specifications after go-live.
- Identifying discrepancies between SOW metrics and system performance.
- Onboarding new customers, WMS providers, and integration partners to ensure standard software and hardware interfaces.
- Build and maintain a library of best practices, design guides, and integration documents to streamline solution design process.
- Pre-sales site layout and topology to ensure that each cell has sufficient conveyor input and output to achieve its potential.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, Computer Science, Math, Physics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in industrial automation, materials handling equipment, industrial engineering, or similar.
- Demonstrated ability to make informed design decisions in capital intensive programs over various time scales.
- Strong understanding of operations / manufacturing concepts such as rate, throughput, buffer, MTBF, MTTR, OEE, time studies, etc.
- Strong understanding of network design, topology, graph theory, etc.
- Ability to lead and manage complex engineering projects, with a focus on delivering high-quality results.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and independently in cross-functional teams and manage multiple priorities.
