Station Texas Executive Director

Description

Texas major metro - Austin, Dallas, Ft Worth, Houston, San AntonioReporting to Station Texas board of directors50% in the Austin HQ office, 50% traveling around TexasMust be a Texas resident

As Executive Director (ED), you are a major catalyst contributing to the rising tide of Texas that lifts all boats across all the state and all the cities.

You are the leading voice for early stage tech advancing the interests of the state and nation— artificial intelligence, robotics, energy, space, synthetic biology, and beyond! You will help transition appropriate areas of Capital Factory’s for-profit assets to the non-profit and set them up for long term sustainability. You will use that network to build powerful partnerships with venture capitalists, government, industry, and academia to help make sure that Texas is positioned to win major new economic development opportunities. When serious innovators want to make something important happen, you will be the first person they call.

Requirements

What you will do…

  • Convene statewide conversations around winning new, public and private sector initiatives in Texas, like ARPA-H, the Army Futures Command, and the Texas Space Commission.
  • Transition appropriate for-profit, public-benefit assets and programs from Capital Factory to the Station Texas nonprofit entity, e.g., its mentor network, select signature events, and other community-building programs.
  • Apply for and win grants, influence appropriations, and solicit corporate donations so that we have ample resources to pursue our mission
  • Build high-impact, bi-partisan partnerships and fundraising efforts with government agencies, private sector leaders, academic institutions, and venture capitalists.
  • Support new program development and drive initiatives that position the organization as a leader in tech innovation for the public good in Texas, regardless of who came up with the idea.

You'll know you're successful if, by March 2026...

  • Station Texas is the recognized catalyst for at least 3 major initiatives competing for central headquarters or major operations in Texas.
  • Station Texas has won an additional $2,500,000 in funding from grants, appropriations, or donations.
  • You have identified and transitioned more than 25% of Capital Factory’s for-profit, public-benefit activities that are appropriate and sustainable under Station Texas.
  • Station Texas has retained the Capital Factory culture and playbook with no undesired turnover.

About you…

  • You are a name and face that other leaders in the Texas innovation ecosystem will recognize.
  • You have been successful at driving revenue through grants, appropriations, donations, or sponsorships
  • You are a Texas resident who lives in a major metro and is able to navigate the nuances of individual Texas cities' competition.
  • You check your email in the evenings and are available to work during evening events and over the weekends when there is a tight deadline. You do what it takes to get the job done.

  • We are transparent and we over-communicate.
  • We have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • We are excited to work in downtown [Austin/Dallas/Houston/San Antonio] and have reliable transportation.
  • We have a quiet place where we can work remotely with fast internet.
  • We are security aware. We have a passcode on our computers and phones and use a password manager.
  • We are able to efficiently use the Google suite of productivity tools (Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides).
