HR Manager

About the role:

At Industrious, our people are our most important asset, full stop. As our HR Manager, you’ll be at the forefront of re-imagining what it means to be a best-in-class employer. You’ll join a small and agile team that is focused on moving the world of HR away from administrative work and into an employee experience function. You’ll work on solving questions like: how do we lead the industry in creating an exemplary hybrid work model? How do we continue to nurture and develop our top talent into our leaders of tomorrow? You’ll work closely with senior leadership, including our COO, whose remit includes HR Business Partnering, Learning & Development, and Employee Experience. This role will be based in Austin.

We are not considering out of market applicants, unless they are open to relocating. We anticipate this role will require about 1 week of travel per quarter.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Serving as the first line of contact for our field employees (entry-level to senior management) for employee relations cases and performance management coaching.
  • Acting as the Subject Matter Expert for our HR policies; have full ownership over keeping information updated and branded. You’ll be an HR resource and partner.
  • Leading or supporting key initiatives related to Learning, Talent, and Culture (such as leading review cycles, talent reviews, engagement surveys, onboarding courses, etc.).
  • Maintaining a pulse on what is top of mind for employees; serving as the eyes and ears for our organization by supporting our People Success function with our listening strategy (including, leading exit interviews and focus groups).
  • Analyzing data to make recommendations on how to improve employee experience.
  • Being a role model for the People team and a champion of our values.

About you:

  • You have at least 3-5 years of progressive HR experience; a bonus if you’ve done so within fast-growing organizations
  • Experience working with legal teams on mediations
  • You have a proven track record of managing ER cases and recommending strategic plans to reduce the volume of ER cases. Discretion is the name of your game, and you manage situations with a high degree of confidentiality. You problem-solve pragmatically and with an eye for risk management.
  • You work collaboratively with cross-functional partners and easily establish rapport. No problem is too small to tackle with your partners; you’re always happy to be a thought partner.
  • You can multitask like a pro and manage the needs of multiple client groups simultaneously
  • You’re highly analytical. You enjoy looking at the human story within the numbers and recommending solutions to your manager.
  • You understand the importance of establishing clear policies but can see in shades of gray and come equipped with a knowledgeable and strong point of view about how things should be done from an HR perspective. You believe that the People team are partners, not police.
  • You avoid corporate gobbledygook.
  • You’re flexible and adaptable. You’re able to pivot easily and relish putting processes and policies in place. You take pride in seeing things through from start to finish. You’re a self-starter who isn't afraid to dive in but knows when to ask for help from your teammates.

Preferred experience

  • 2-3 years supporting a multi-unit or field population (hospitality, retail, or restaurant industry experience is a plus)
  • Working knowledge of employment laws and legislation within North America, with special attention to California and New York.
  • Strong creative skillset; ability to create polished collateral

This is not your average People Team! You'll be joining a supportive, high energy group of people who are as hard working as we are quirky. You'll bring energy, humor, and a human touch to HR—because policies are important, but people are everything. You’re the kind of person who can make compliance sound (almost) exciting, turn a tough conversation into a productive one, and find joy in the chaos of a fast-moving workplace. We lead with a 'People First' mindset to craft employee experiences that are surprising and delightful. If you believe HR should be as fun as it is functional, we want to meet you!

Compensation and Benefits

The annual base compensation range for this role is between $100,000 and $115,000. The successful candidate's actual compensation will be based upon a variety of factors, including but not limited to work experience, job-related knowledge, skills, and professional qualifications. You will also be eligible for a target annual bonus of 12.5% of your base salary, calculated based on personal and company performance. If your expected compensation falls outside of the given range, and you are still interested in working at Industrious, we'd love for you to join our Talent Pipeline and be kept in the loop for all new opportunities that could be a good fit for your experience!
