Mechanical Design Engineer – Quantum Space
Who We’re Looking For:
Quantum Space is revolutionizing space with highly maneuverable and long-lasting spacecraft, and we need a world-class Mechanical Design Engineer to drive the design of spacecraft systems that push the boundaries of what’s possible.We’re looking for a highly motivated engineer with the expertise to design, develop, integrate, and test spacecraft mechanical systems. You will lead mechanical design from concept development through launch, working with a fast-paced and tight-knit team of engineers and scientists to change the future of space technology.
Where You’ll Make an Impact:
- Mechanical Systems Design – Design and draft a wide assortment of flight hardware and ground support equipment, including:
- Spacecraft structures
- Avionics enclosures
- Fluid systems
- Harnessing
- Assembly and lift tooling
- Mechanical Interfaces – Manage mechanical interfaces and configure test and flight top-level assemblies.
- Risk Mitigation – Evaluate technical risks, cross-functional issues, and mitigation actions.
- Test and Verification – Generate environmental test plans and create content for design reviews, tests, and verification activities.
- Manufacturing & Integration – Support manufacturing, integration & testing (I&T), and launch site operations.
What It Takes:
- A passion for pushing the limits of space technology, designing mechanical solutions that outperform legacy systems.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field with at least 5 years of relevant design experience.
- Expertise in spacecraft mechanical systems, including structural design, thermal management, and fluid systems.
- Proficiency with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing per ASME Y14.5.
- Experience generating part and assembly drawings.
- Knowledge of commercial, industry, and NASA specifications and standards.
- Strong communication skills and ability to lead and interact with distributed team members.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment where adaptability and ownership are critical.
- A hands-on approach—when something needs fixing, you step in and make it happen.
Nice-to-Have Experience:
- Proficiency managing large assemblies using Creo Parametric.
- Experience generating part and assembly drawings with Creo Parametric.
- Experience with conceptual, detailed design, and I&T phases of programs.
- Expertise designing for specific manufacturing processes.
- Familiarity with harnessing.
- Experience with model-based definition.
