The UE Resolutions Department is looking for experienced attorneys for our South and Mid-Atlantic teams to help us resolve some of our members’ most challenging claims.

Responsibilities:
- Monitor and manage claims files assigned, and alert and consult with supervisory counsel on those which may present company exposure
- Participate with the insured and defense counsel in developing a case resolution strategy
- Positively impact the resolution of files through early interaction, reference to ADR, mediation and effective litigation management
- Demonstrate mastery of claims handling expectations for complex matters including analyzing coverage, evaluating liability, monitoring claims, determining claim values, reserving, reinsurance reporting, resolving matters, and reviewing legal bills
- Analyze reported claims for accurate loss coding information
- Review initial liability and damage assessment with insured, including a discussion of coverage
- Draft acknowledgment/reservation of rights/declination letters and defense counsel appointment letters
- Evaluate budgets submitted by defense counsel for reasonableness; regularly review files for compliance with the agreed upon budget and strategy
- Perform legal research as needed
Requirements:
- A minimum of six years' experience in law firm, insurance company or general counsel’s office
- Law degree and experience defending or handling litigation involving employment, catastrophic bodily injury, personal injury, or educational issues
- Excellent written and oral communications
- Strong legal analysis and problem-solving skills
- Good negotiation and advocacy skills
- Knowledge of substantive law of higher education or insurance law preferred but not required
- Ability to thrive in an atmosphere of constant change
- Ability to travel as required

Employees can make pre-tax contributions or taxed (Roth) salary reductions. Catch-up contributions for employees 50 years old and over. - For the first two years of employment, employees accrue PTO at 24 days per year. At the beginning of the third year of service, employees accrue 30 days per year of PTO.

The below annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.Salary Range$117,000—$180,000 USD
