Overview of the Role
- We are seeking a bilingual, organized and detail-oriented HR Specialist to support our Retail team. The HR Specialist will play a key role in supporting the full employee life-cycle for retail team members. The HR Specialist will support in onboarding, HRIS maintenance and employee relations.
- Fluency in both English and Spanish is required to effectively communicate with our diverse workforce.
- Location: Fully remote
- Salary range $60,000 - $70,000 based on experience, qualifications and skills.
- Travel Requirements: Minimal overnight travel required (less than 10%) – i.e. yearly People Team summits, & or any other events that would be warranted

What You’ll do at C.A. Fortune
- Offer Letter Creation: Draft and send personalized offer letters to new retail team members, ensuring all necessary information is included.
- Background Check: Coordinate and manage background check processes for new hires, ensuring compliance with company policies and legal requirements.
- I-9 Processing: Oversee I-9 verification for new employees, ensuring all documents are properly completed and in compliance with federal regulations.
- HRIS Management: Oversee employee data entry and maintenance within the HRIS system, ensuring accuracy and compliance. Responsibilities include setting up new hire profiles, processing promotions and transfers, updating employment statuses, maintaining key employee information (e.g., home department, FLSA status, pay class), conducting minimum wage audits, running system reports, managing PTO updates, and uploading policies and documents for employee signatures. Continuously ensure data integrity and system accuracy to support HR operations.
- Payroll & Timekeeping Support: Serve as a key liaison between managers and the payroll team to ensure accurate timekeeping and payroll processing. Assist leaders in reviewing and troubleshooting timecard discrepancies, ensuring corrections are made before payroll deadlines. Maintain an understanding of payroll policies and procedures to help address employee and manager inquiries, ensuring compliance and accuracy.
- Onboarding: Guide new retail employees through the onboarding process, ensuring a smooth transition into their roles. This includes conducting orientation sessions and providing necessary training materials.
- Offboarding: Assist with the offboarding process for departing employees, including conducting exit interviews and ensuring all company property is returned.
- Employee Relations Support: Provide support for employee relations matters, addressing employee concerns and assisting in resolving workplace issues. This includes managing performance management processes, supporting workers' compensation cases, and assisting employees during parental leave requests.
- HR Compliance: Ensure adherence to all federal, state, and local HR-related regulations, maintaining compliance with labor laws, company policies, and employee benefits regulations. This includes supporting audits and ensuring necessary documentation is complete and up-to-date.
What You Should Bring to the Table
- Proven experience in an HR or administrative role, preferably in a retail environment.
- Familiarity with HR systems and tools (ADP Workforce Now experience a plus)
- Bilingual with fluency in English and Spanish - verbal and written.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, in both English and Spanish, with the ability to interact effectively with employees at all levels.
- Knowledge of federal and state labor laws.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
