Reporting to the Engineering Services Manager, we have two (2) open positions. (1) Service Provisioning Network Engineer and/or (2) Network Engineer. These positions will each have a key role in provisioning cutting edge services and connections on the Internet2 network. Your work will include taking reference designs, business specifications, and customer requests - building and testing those configurations - and seeing those changes successfully deployed to serve our members. You will also contribute to the roadmap for our technology implementations, continuously improve the operational systems, and assist our community with the optimal provisioning of our services.
You will solve complex problems for our community, including assisting them with debugging and problem solving of transport applications on an end-to-end basis - including multiple networks at the national, regional, and campus. You will also serve on a team which includes an escalation point in support of our operations teams and periodically participate in on-call rotations. Essential job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Communicate with customers and vendors effectively via email, phone and/or direct messaging software, such as Slack.
- Test configurations in the lab to ensure they are deployable, supportable, and optimized.
- Efficiently complete provisioning and service-related tasks across multiple network layers (physical, transport and layer 3)
- Complete provisioning and services documentation in a timely manner
- Effectively use network automation for service-related provisioning projects and network upgrades.
- Follow Change Management process.
- Support testing in a lab environment to ensure configurations are deployable, supportable, and optimized.
- Develop MOPs for deploying routing, peering, long-haul, and fiber infrastructure.
- Receive and work to resolve escalation requests from the break-fix engineering team.
- Recognize when an issue needs escalation to higher level engineering staff and/or the vendor.
- Participate in cross-department activities with security, business development, software & systems, and leadership.
- Work with PPMO to improve processes and procedures for both new deployment and problem resolution.
- Provide additional support for break-fix, ordering and logistics.
- Support testing in a lab environment to ensure configurations are deployable, supportable and optimized.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Communications, Computer Studies or equivalent related experience.
- Minimum of 4 years in a Network Core Engineer role with focus on networking fundamentals and direct experience with implementing applications.
- 1 year experience Optical Variant with DWDM transmission systems, long haul fiber facilities.
- 4 year’s experience with IP Protocols, Internet ecosystems including open exchanges , cloud / peering, colocation and transport infrastructure.
- Experience with physical connectivity at all layers, including DC cabling, power distribution, cross connects.
- Ability and willingness to travel domestically.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in a similar environment (multi-site campus, ISP, WAN, carrier network)
- Global backbone architecture experience.
- Unix and scripting experience; automation experience (including NSO)
- Understanding of alarming and monitoring infrastructure; in-depth experience with internet routing protocols such as ISIS, OSPF, and SR-MPLS; experience with L2VPN technologies such as EVPN and BGP Signaled (Kompella) L2VPN;
- Experience with Cisco NCS/ASR/8200 platforms (IOS-XR), Arista 7280 platforms, Juniper EX platforms; experience with route policy; traffic analysis and troubleshooting skills, specifically applied to BGP
- In-depth experience with optical technology such as WDM and OTN; experience with Ciena 6500/Waveserver platforms/MCP/SiteManager.

Salary Range / Pay Grade:
