Job Summary:
The Analyzer Technician is responsible for the maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of process analyzers, gas chromatographs, and other analytical instrumentation used in the manufacturing process. This role ensures the accuracy and reliability of plant process analyzers to maintain product quality, environmental compliance, and operational efficiency. The position is also frequently called on to troubleshoot analyzer and instrumentation equipment problems and perform unscheduled equipment repairs.
Additional duties include ordering and/or specifying parts needed, maintaining instrumentation and electrical equipment records, ensuring maintenance history is accurate and entered into the CMMS, interfacing with the work planner on job instructions, estimates, and documenting work in procedures and instructions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance on process analyzers, gas chromatographs, pH meters, conductivity meters, and other analytical instruments.
- Troubleshoot and repair analyzer equipment to minimize plant downtime and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Calibrate and verify analyzer performance to meet operational and environmental standards.
- Work closely with operations, engineering, and maintenance teams to optimize analyzer performance and reliability.
- Interpret and analyze instrument readings, charts, and data to diagnose equipment issues.
- Maintain documentation of maintenance activities, calibration records, and regulatory compliance reports.
- Assist in commissioning new analyzer systems and implementing upgrades.
- Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system reliability.
- Provide technical support and training to plant personnel on analyzer operation and troubleshooting.
- Assist planner as needed to develop accurate Analyzer and I&E work plans.
- Specify and order material to complete Analyzer and I&E work orders.
- Update equipment files and records as needed.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required, associate’s degree or technical certification in instrumentation, electronics, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience working in a chemical, refining, or industrial environment
- Knowledge of gas chromatography, spectroscopy, and electrochemical analysis techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Proficiency with calibration software and diagnostic tools.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to work on-call and overtime hours as needed.
- Must be able to set priorities, be self-motivated, and foster good relationships with coworkers and service providers.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Degree or certification in Analyzer or I&E maintenance (e.g., ISA CCST, TDLAS training).
- Experience with SAP
- Very strong organization skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, etc..)
