PDK Development Engineer

We are seeking a PDK Development Engineer to join Akoustis’s XBAW Device Modeling/PDK team and will be responsible for the development, generation, delivery, and support of PDKs used by internal designers as well as external Foundry Service customers. The engineer will work with other modeling engineers, designers, the product development team, and external customers to ensure successful implementation of the PDK and linear/nonlinear model with their designs.  This is a 6-month contract with the potential for a longer engagement.

Some specific deliverables include:


  • Engineer will be responsible for generating XBAW resonator models, develop and maintain XBAW PDK for Cadence AWR to support discrete devices, packaged devices, and full XBAW Filter design processes
  • Provide automated CAD solutions to support design methodologies and any issues raised by design teams. Proactively work with design team to anticipate their needs.
  • Develop, qualify, and support physical verification decks for DRC/LVS to support design tape out
  • Develop, qualify and support EM and thermal setups within the PDK
  • Provide application support for PDK usage to internal and external customers
  • Collaborate with colleagues and team members in defining, maintaining, testing and deploying CAD infrastructure, PDKs and PDK components to internal customers.
  • Provide application support for PDK usage to internal and external customers
  • Work with EDA tool vendors on tool evaluations and any requested enhancements and bug fixes.
  • Create and maintain documentation to support PDK usage and requirements, including updates to foundry manuals and user guides, as well as general applications support for the PDK and device models

 Ideally, we are seeking someone with:


  • BS degree or higher in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering 
  • Ability to: 
  • Perform data extraction, transformation, and loading 
  • Provide scripting support to automate data workflows 
  • Write comprehensive reports 
  • Overcome challenges and make tradeoffs between an ideal solution and what is possible 
  • Strong background in RF circuits and Electromagnetics 
  • Understanding of equivalent device circuit models to support IC Designs 
  • Skilled in the use of FEA simulation tools such as AWR and HFSS 
  • Knowledge of piezoelectric acoustic resonator metrics 
  • An analytical mind and inclination for problem-solving 
  • Experience in data models and reporting packages 
  • Strong attention to detail 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills 
  • Preferred skills and experience: 
  • Python programming 
  • Visual Basic programming and use of VBA to generate AWR scripts
