Location: 4400 Papa Joe Hendrick Blvd, Charlotte, North Carolina 28262Hendrick Motorsports is currently seeking an experienced Assembly Technician.  The Assembly Technician will report directly to the Production Manager and will contribute to the build of the race cars and work to prepare them for the track. The individual will ensure that all components of the car are secured and working properly and that all worklists have been completed. The candidate must be versatile and able to work on all aspects of a race car.

We are looking for an employee with a good attitude who enjoys working in a team environment and who has a good skill level and working knowledge of race car assembly.

Essential Duties and Responsibilitiesinclude the following:


  • Assemble race cars and components ranging from bodywork to interior components.
  • Read and understand engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Assemble race cars at assigned workstations, performing any combination of following repetitive tasks according to specifications and using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and production fixtures.
  • Carry out precision mechanical assembly of components and fittings while working closely with the Vehicle Engineering department.
  • Fasten components together according to blueprints and technical plans to create subassemblies or finished products.
  • Verify quality of own work and write description of defects observed on documents attached to vehicle bodies.
  • Enter and retrieve production data using PLM software.
  • Ensure that agreed internal methodologies and procedures are followed and that a high quality of work is maintained.
  • Position and fasten together body subassemblies, such as side frames, underbodies, doors, hoods, and trunk lids, to assemble vehicle bodies.
  • Bolt, screw, clip, or otherwise fasten together parts to form subassemblies, such as doors, seats, instrument control panels, steering columns, and axle units.
  • Fit and adjust doors, hoods, and trunk lids.
  • Seal joints and seams using caulking gun.
  • Fasten seats, door paneling, headliners, carpeting, molding, and other trim into position.
  • Examine race cars and make a determination as what needs to be installed or repaired.  
  • Inspect race cars for compliance with templates, record findings, and make necessary repairs where needed. 
  • Operate precision measuring instruments (CMM) for specific measures as well as scanning of various components.
  • Perform maintenance services, repairs, and reconstruction work.
  • Install, replace, repair, and/or adjust mechanical parts, filters, air ducts, cooling systems, interior components, and controls. 
  • Communicate with other members of the team to ensure proper assembly.

Education: 

High School diploma or GED preferred

Experience:

  Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience as a mechanic, fabricator or assembly technician

Skills:

Additional knowledge such as fabricating, turning, and milling would be an advantage. Must have the ability to read blueprints and have some shop-based experience. Must possess strong mechanical aptitude.

Certificates and Licenses: 

Valid Driver’s License

Computer Skills: 

Requires basic computer skills.

Communication Skills:

Must be able to effectively communicate with team members.

Attendance Expectations:

The position requires regular and predictable attendance.  Scheduled shifts may include evening hours, weekends, and holidays.

Physical Demands: 

Requires vision (near, distance, depth), sense of touch, and ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – respirator and hearing and eye protection. Requires constant standing, walking, manually manipulating, lifting/carrying up to 20 pounds, and pushing/pulling up to 25 pounds. Frequently reaches outward, reaches above shoulder, bends, and pushes/pulls up to 40 pounds. Occasionally sits, climbs, crawls, squats or kneels, lifts/carries over 100 pounds, and pushes/pulls up to 100 pounds.

Environment Demands: 

Primarily works indoors.
