dotCMS is a cloud-based Universal CMS that is changing how enterprises do digital. We seek an Engineering Manager - Platform.
As an Engineering Manager - Platform, you will guide and manage a cross-functional SCRUM team of software engineers. This role is pivotal in driving the ongoing transformation of dotCMS cloud by implementing and maintaining the latest SaaS practices, ensuring the platform remains agile, scalable, and aligned with industry best practices.
We're proud to be 100% remote! You may work remotely from any location in Canada that is compatible with standard U.S. business hours (unless specified otherwise). What you’ll bring to the team:
- Team Leadership and Management
- Lead and inspire a team of software engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and high performance.
- Mentor and coach team members, providing guidance on technical and professional development.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to team members.
- Manage team resources effectively, ensuring optimal utilization and productivity.
- Project Management and Delivery
- Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of software projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
- Work closely with product management and design teams to gather and refine requirements, translating them into actionable technical specifications.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to ensure alignment and support for projects.
- Manage project risks and dependencies, proactively addressing potential issues.
- Monitor project progress and provide regular updates to stakeholders.
- Technical Leadership and Guidance
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to the team, assisting with problem-solving and decision-making.
- Decompose complex technical challenges into smaller, manageable tasks, assigning them to team members based on their skills and expertise.
- Conduct code reviews to ensure adherence to coding standards and best practices.
- Stay abreast of emerging software development trends and technologies, evaluating their potential applicability to the dotCMS platform.
- Champion a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the team.
- Operational Responsibilities
- Participate in on-call rotation and bi-weekly evening maintenance activities, ensuring the platform's availability and reliability.
- Collaborate with customer experience and other engineering teams to manage and optimize the platform's performance and scalability.
- Monitor and analyze platform metrics, identifying areas for improvement and optimization.
- Ensure compliance with security and data privacy standards.
Why we get excited about you
- 7+ years of experience in software engineering, demonstrating a strong understanding of software development principles and practices.
- 2+ years of experience in a leadership or management role, showcasing the ability to lead and inspire teams.
- Proven experience working with Agile methodologies, particularly SCRUM.
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience with relevant technologies, including Kubernetes, AWS, Linux, PostgreSQL, Terraform, and Java application development and deployment.
- Deep understanding of client/server architecture and web application development.
- Experience as a technical product owner is a plus
- Proven track record of:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to think critically and creatively.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative and self-motivation.
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to identify patterns and requirements to build 1:many solutions
- Identifies and resolves blockers quickly with minimal support from others.
