Toast is looking for a Full Stack Software Engineer II to join the Membership team in India. You'll play a key role in building the platform that manages subscriptions, memberships, and tracks usage of member benefits for customers and guests — all within Toast’s ecosystem.
What You'll Do:
- Collaborate with developers, product managers, and designers to build features around subscription and membership management, as well as tracking member benefits for both customers and guests.
- Tackle challenging projects in a supportive, cross-functional team environment.
- Ship code with a direct, measurable impact on Toast’s growth.
- Work on new product features from the ground up, driving innovation and technical excellence.
- Partner with experienced engineers to contribute to design and code reviews.
- Monitor feature rollouts to ensure customer success and iterate on improvements.
What You’ll Need:
- 3+ years of experience with Java, Kotlin, or other object-oriented languages.
- Proficiency with modern web technologies and UI frameworks (e.g., React, TypeScript, REST, GraphQL).
- Experience with databases like PostgreSQL, DynamoDB (or similar).
- Familiarity with asynchronous communication via message queues (e.g., Pulsar, JMS) or Kafka is a plus.
- Knowledge of microservices architecture, distributed systems, and/or enterprise messaging systems is a plus.
- Proven experience delivering reliable services to production.
- Strong communication skills, especially around complex technical topics.
- Passion for technology and continuous learning.
- Curiosity and eagerness to tackle large, impactful problems.

Our Tech Stack
Toast’s products run on a stack that ranges from guest and restaurant-facing Android tablets to backend services in Java to internal, guest-facing and restaurant-facing web apps. Our backend services follow a microservice architecture written using Java 8 and DropWizard; we use AWS extensively, ranging from S3 to RDS to Lambda. We have our own platform for dealing with user management, service elevations and robust load balancing. Toast stores data in a set of sharded Postgres databases and utilizes Apache Spark for large scale data workloads including query and batch processing.
The front-end is built primarily using React and ES6. The main Toast POS application is an Android application written in Java and Kotlin. For data between tablets and our cloud platform we operate RabbitMQ clusters as well as direct tablet communication to the back end.
