Summary
This seasoned individual will be a critical member of the technical staff, responsible for maturing, expanding capabilities of and supporting Bionano’s instrument systems. You will interact with engineers and scientists from various disciplines, as well as directly with the support organization and some customers. You will use your disciplined systems engineering approach to identify optimized solutions and effectively communicate those to your peers and to management, including senior management.
This is a full-time position located in our San Diego headquarters. This is primarily an on-site position, with significant time spent in the engineering and science labs.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Own and understand the requirements and specifications for instrument systems.
- Working with a broader technical team, identify areas of impactful improvement in the design, manufacturing and deployment of Bionano’s instruments. In some cases, lead the full realization and release of those improvements.
- Plan and execute systems engineering verification testing.
- Assist manufacturing in qualifying instruments received from Bionano’s OEM partners.
- Assist the global support organization in deploying and supporting instruments.
- Contribute significantly to the development of documentation packages to submit to regulatory bodies.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Proven ability to understand customer needs and create requirements and specifications to meet those needs. Work with others to properly flow those specifications through to subsystems
- Exceptional technical troubleshooting skills
- Strong communications skills; oral, written, electronic and presentation
- Strong statistics skills; create and execute DOEs, tolerance studies, gauge R&R, Cpk analyses
- Must be flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Skills and Abilities
- Experience in leading programs under ISO13485
- Knowledge of epi-fluorescence microscopy using CMOS or CCD technologies
- Experience with electrophoresis
- Working familiarity with formal reliability engineering concepts
- Able to own and lead DFMEA and PFMEA analyses
Education, Certifications, Licenses
- Education (Level and field of study) required/ preferred: Bachelor’s degree, preferably in engineering or science is required.
- Years relevant/ total work experience: 10+ years’ experience in successfully developing and bringing to commercialization life science instruments and consumables.
- Certifications required/ preferred: N/A
Leadership Responsibility (Direct/ Indirect):
No direct reports but will guide and train less experienced engineers.
