Main Purpose:


To demonstrate customer service to the highest degree. The Customer Service Representative will communicate with customers, vendors, and co-workers to solve problems, process sales orders, process purchase orders, and follow orders through from quote to delivery Requirements

Essential Functions:


  •   Under authority of the General Manager, the CSR will take phone calls from customers and potential customers to provide assistance to their needs. 
  • The CSR will provide quotations to the customer based on strategic pricing analysis on a quote-by-quote basis. The CSR must have a working knowledge of the current steel market, as well as understand customer needs and expectations. 
  • The CSR is responsible for providing the customer with information beyond quoting prices, such as material availability, grades, our capabilities, as well as answering general questions about how ordering steel with us works. 
  • The CSR will communicate directly with the Materials and Logistics Coordinator to relay any necessary information regarding customer specifics on an order-by-order basis. This communication will be via, phone call, e-mail, notes on printed paperwork, and by any other means necessary to accurately and efficiently process a customer’s order. 
  • They are responsible for developing long-term business relationships with customers through phone calls, e-mail, and some face-to-face interactions. The CSR is expected to provide superior customer service while being accurate and efficient. 
  • The CSR understands that Gulf Island Steel Sales is built on customer service and customer satisfaction, and they are expected to demonstrate those qualities through every interaction and opportunity. 
  • Responsible for communicating with vendors, obtaining quotes for special order & buyout items, and making strategic decisions when issuing purchase orders. 
  • The CSR will communicate regularly with the Outside Sales Representative regarding customer news, quotes, and expectations. 
  • The CSR is responsible for following up on quotes with customers on an as-needed basis. 

The CSR should utilize sales reporting to obtain data that will provide the information needed to make follow-up phone calls and e-mails to customers and vendors.

Physical Requirements:


  •  Standing and Walking.
  • Turning, twisting, bending, and stooping.
  • Employees must be able to lift to 15lbs.

Job Requirements


  • Proficient with MS-Word & MS-Excel.

Desirable Experience, Education, and Training:


  • High School diploma with a minimum of two (2) years of administrative and inside sales experience.
