We have a Controls Engineer opportunity in our Pleasanton, CA office. This person designs, develops, and implements control systems, including logic software and hardware, to meet process and system requirements. The role involves preparing schematics, leading design reviews, performing system startups, and creating comprehensive project documentation. Working across industries such as manufacturing and data center automation, the Controls Engineer will act as a technical lead, guide junior staff, and collaborate on best practices.

With a focus on quality and efficiency, the Controls Engineer manages multiple projects, addresses technical challenges, and ensures seamless system integration. Strong technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and effective communication are key to success in this role.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and implement control systems (logic software and hardware) to meet process and system requirements
  • Prepare detailed schematics and equipment panel layouts using AutoCAD
  • Develop and finalize control system documentation, including Sequence of Operation documents and system training materials for customers
  • Lead design reviews with customers for review and approval of design documents
  • Perform system checkout and start-up at customer sites, ensuring seamless integration and operation
  • Develop the final record system documentation and provide system training to the customer
  • Execute automation and control system integration projects across industries, including manufacturing and data center automation
  • Act as technical lead on projects providing guidance to junior engineers and technicians
  • Collaborate on standards, techniques, procedures, and criteria
  • Lead design reviews, develop project documentation, and address potential roadblocks to ensure efficient task completion
  • Collaborate on standards, techniques, procedures, and criteria to maintain best practices and quality standards
  • Independently manage multiple projects of moderate size or portions of major projects
  • Prepare project charters, execution plans, and reports, including status, earned value, and risk management
  • Routinely tests own work or work of associate engineers in area of technical expertise
  • Responsible for understanding, staying updated on, and abiding by the Employee Handbook as written

Qualifications/Requirements:  


  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

  • Self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Word, and Excel
  • Ability to manage tasks efficiently within high-pressure environments

Education/Experience


:


  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university in Electrical, Computer, or Chemical Engineer is preferred
  • Preferred experience with instrumentation and controls design as well as PLC (i.e. Rockwell Automation, GE, Modicon, or Siemens) and/or SCADA required
  • 2-8 years experience preferred
  • An AA in Engineering Technology, or equivalent combination of education and experience, may be substituted

  • Office Work:
  • Office desk/cubicle environment

  • Occasional Control Panel powered checkouts in panel shops or customer site
  • Site Work:
  • Up to 25% travel to industrial manufacturing facilities
  • Comply with all Company safety guidelines and requirements for site work
  • On-Site working conditions may include: 
  • Work around construction equipment and personnel
  • Work around production equipment and personnel
  • Work in hot or cold areas
  • Work in noisy areas
  • Work up and down stairs, indoors and outdoors
  • Electrical/Instrumentation Device Checkout and Troubleshooting. Includes voltage testing, equipment troubleshooting on a ladder, and light electrical assembly – signal wiring in control panels/instruments
  • Working and interfacing with operations, maintenance, engineering, equipment supply, and construction personnel

Typical Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) Required: Safety Glasses, Steel Toed shoes, hearing protection, and electrical safety PPE. Employees must comply with customer specific requirements and PPE.Work may include working weekends, holidays, nightshift, and extended hours to meet deadlines and commissioning requirements.

The expected salary range is $85,000 - $135,000 per year depending on qualifications plus a discretionary bonus and employee stock program.  #LI-Hybrid
