Job Description
The Electrician & Instrumentation Controls Technician at Vorbeck will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of electrical systems, instrumentation controls, and equipment within the manufacturing facility. The role requires strong technical skills in both electrical and instrumentation controls, a proactive approach to equipment maintenance, and a focus on minimizing downtime and ensuring operational efficiency. This technician will play a key role in keeping both electrical and mechanical systems running smoothly and will work closely with other departments to support facility operations.
- Electrical Inspections & Maintenance: Perform regular inspections, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical systems, including control panels, wiring, motors, sensors, switches, and production machinery.
- Commissioning & Early Operations Support: Assist with the commissioning and early-stage operation of the plant, ensuring all systems are tested and functioning as required, and support the transition from initial setup to full operational status. This includes constructing electrical panels, running wiring, and implementing designs for electrical infrastructure.
- Repairs & Troubleshooting: Diagnose electrical issues and repair or replace faulty components to restore equipment functionality and minimize downtime.
- Preventive Maintenance: Manage and schedule routine preventive maintenance activities for electrical equipment and systems to prevent breakdowns and reduce unplanned downtime.
- Work Area Organization & Safety Compliance: Ensure all work areas are clean, organized, and comply with local safety codes, OSHA regulations, and company policies. Promote a safety-conscious environment by maintaining high safety standards, conducting regular safety audits, and providing ongoing safety training to ensure a safe and productive working environment.
- Documentation & Inventory Management: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including repairs, inspections, and system upgrades. Oversee the inventory of maintenance supplies, ensuring timely procurement and availability of necessary parts and materials.
- Collaboration & Emergency Response: Work closely with other departments to resolve maintenance issues, support production goals, and enhance equipment performance. Provide on-call support for urgent maintenance issues to ensure minimal disruption to operations.
- Process Improvement & Risk Management: Identify potential risks or challenges within electrical and facility systems, and develop strategies to address and mitigate them. Participate in safety audits, inspections, and ongoing improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and ensure equipment reliability.
- Other Duties as Assigned: Support the maintenance team with additional tasks or projects as directed by the supervisor or manager.
- Travel (expected 10%): Willingness to travel as needed to support maintenance projects, collaborate with other facilities, or respond to urgent needs.
Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or GED required. An Associate’s degree in a related field is a plus.
- Completion of an electrical apprenticeship or relevant vocational training is preferred.
- Valid electrical license/certification, as required by local or national regulations.
- OSHA certification or equivalent safety training is a plus.
- Experience with heavy machinery and relevant certifications (e.g., Forklift, Scissor Lift) is preferred.
Experience
- Proven experience in electrical maintenance, ideally in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, industrial machinery, control circuits, PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), and electrical troubleshooting techniques.
Skills and Abilities
- In-depth understanding of industrial electrical systems, control circuits, transformers, wiring, and motor controls.
- Familiarity with PLCs and their role in automation systems, including the ability to troubleshoot and perform repairs or adjustments.
- Ability to use electrical testing tools (e.g., multimeter, ammeter, oscilloscope) for circuit testing and ensuring safety.
- Proficient in reading and understanding electrical wiring diagrams, blueprints, and schematics for effective work execution.
- Strong knowledge of power distribution systems, transformers, circuit breakers, and electrical panels.
- Thorough understanding of electrical codes and safety regulations (e.g., NEC, OSHA standards).
- Ability to maintain a high level of safety awareness and follow strict safety procedures during all tasks.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to perform activities such as walking, standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, stair and ladder climbing on a daily basis.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly as part of daily responsibilities.
