We are seeking qualified Health Engagement Specialists to support Head Start which is a nationwide comprehensive child development program serving pregnant families and eligible children from birth to five. As per Section 640(a)(1)(C)(i) of the Head Start Act, amended on December 12, 2007, a portion of the Head Start allocation is reserved for training and technical assistance (TTA) activities to enhance service quality. This is an opportunity to improve local programs' capacity to deliver high-quality services, focusing on correcting findings from federal monitoring, school readiness, and staff training/professional development needs.This is a high-impact engagement role, supporting Head Start's mission to provide high-quality child development services to families and children in need.
In addition to providing expertise, strategies, and resources on comprehensive health services to staff in Regional Offices and TTAs, the ideal candidate will also help engage staff and families around health and well-being issues, such as mental health, and child health and safety in classrooms.THIS POSITION IS PENDING CONTRACT AWARD
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Become a member of a peer group of Health Specialists from each of the twelve regions of the country.Implement strategies to support grant recipients in developing and implementing systems to support the health and wellness of children, families, and employees in the region.
- Identify emerging trends that impact Head Start and Early Head Start grant recipients using existing data from government systems.
- Prepare and provide presentations and training on topics related to early childhood health, mental health, safety, and other related topics.
- Provide comprehensive health and mental health services by serving as a liaison between OHS health and mental health leads, the National Center for Health and Wellness, and their regional colleagues.
- Work with Family Engagement, Early Childhood, and Grantee Specialists to support the effective integration of TTA across service areas.
- Directly assist grant recipients with their TTA needs, as instructed by the regional office.
- Participate in national, regional, and state work groups and meetings as directed by the OHS.
- Contribute to emerging OHS initiatives and priorities, including in other regions.
E
ducation & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year institution.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience, supporting programmatic initiatives engaging families and communities in Early Childhood or Child Development.
- Extensive knowledge of early childhood education, training, and community outreach strategies.
- Experience with workforce development and management training.
- Knowledge of the regulatory factors, policies, and standards of public engagement.
- Capable of developing and implementing comprehensive engagement plans with project team members, stakeholders, and partners.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills - ability to disseminate complex information into easy-to-digest terms.
- Proficiency in data analysis and reporting.
- Excellent business writing skills and attention to detail; impeccable command of English grammar and the ability to communicate with key stakeholders and external partners.
- Proficiency with basic computer programming, including the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
