We are looking for a System Engineer to help develop and maintain integration equipment for enabling customer participation with the business. You will be part of a team leading technical advancements which enhance the performance of the electric grid to be smarter and more efficient.
You will implement solutions at sites to integrate them electronically into our dispatch system for full automation and custom site controls.
This is a remote position with a preference for candidates who are within the Baltimore, MD area.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Understand and work within strict network security architecture.
- Work in a constantly changing landscape and adapting new rules to existing standards.
- Scope out and design automation and control systems for customer sites, ensuring that solutions are customized to meet the unique needs of each customer and program requirements.
- Collaborate with customers and technology partners to integrate RESTful web-based API to enable dispatching, scheduling, telemetry, and other critical automation processes.
- Program and configure programmable logic controllers (PLCs) to interface with control systems at customer sites leveraging Function Block, Relay Ladder Logic, and other flow based, low-code development tools.
- Perform rigorous testing of system integrations and control logic to validate that all components function seamlessly across various platforms. Troubleshoot and resolve any issues that arise during the testing phase to ensure operational reliability and performance.
Requirements
- A degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience that demonstrates a strong understanding of engineering principles and integration technologies.
- Proven expertise in working with SCADA systems to monitor and control industrial processes.
- In-depth knowledge of SCADA communication protocols such as Modbus, DNP3, and other industry-standard protocols used in SCADA systems for data transmission and system control.
- Experience with metering technologies for electrical systems is a plus, but not required.
- Capable of reading, understanding, and interpreting electrical one-line diagrams and layout drawings.
- Proficiency in Python, JavaScript, C, or other relevant programming languages, with the ability to write and maintain efficient, scalable code.
- Comprehensive understanding of microgrid systems, including the various assets that make them function effectively—such as energy storage systems, solar, and generators.
- Basic understanding of Network Security.
