About the Job


At Sovrn, we are hiring for a Manager, Software Engineering to lead the Sovrn Platform team, which is responsible for the engineering and operational management for our publisher-facing web portal. We enable publishers to leverage a wide variety of products, operating in open market conditions at startup scale and speed, with a focus on time to market and value add.  In this role, you’ll spend less time writing code, but remain engaged in technical deliverables. You’ll be focused on clarifying deliverables, identifying and eliminating bottlenecks, and supporting a diverse, talented, and motivated team of engineers while balancing personnel challenges with business requirements. 

What You’ll Be Doing:


  • Engineering management and mentorship of 1 full-stack, agile engineering team
  • Responsible for hiring, on-boarding and mentoring a diverse team of engineers.
  • Understand and communicate the business domain, and how it affects requirement and implementation details.
  • Develop, execute and influence the product roadmap, ensuring high quality web applications and APIs.
  • Track and manage key engineering metrics such as development cycle time, team velocity, software quality, and team morale.
  • Work closely with Product Management and Creative teams to design new features and empower the engineering teams to develop them.
  • Empower engineering teams and leaders to drive standards, ensure code quality, and foster a culture of collaboration while driving engineering design, delivery, and excellence.
  • Work with cross-functional teams and across other business verticals to translate functional requirements into technical design and implementations.
  • Work with other engineering leaders to continuously improve the overall development processes.
  • Manage the entire software development lifecycle, from planning and prioritization to testing and release.
  • Break down a full project plan into incremental deliveries, and track the team’s work against those steps.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, technical excellence, and continuous improvement within the engineering team.

The successful candidate will have:


  • 5+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 2 years in a leadership role
  • Experience with developing or delivering web services, applications, and API’s
  • Strong communication and leadership abilities, with a track record of mentoring and developing engineering talent.
  • Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience working closely with Product Management and Creative teams to design new features and empower the engineering teams to develop them.
  • Proven ability to manage and resolve complex technical issues
  • Experience with Scrum and Agile development processes
  • Excel in a fast paced startup-like development environment
  • Passion and drive to help the team improve and deliver great products.
  • Active listening and respect for others opinions and ideas.
  • You are technical enough to understand the products and what the team is doing.
  • Demonstrated success in coaching and mentoring others.

Bonus Points


  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, AWS or another cloud platform.
  • Experience working with remote engineering teams geographically distributed across the world
  • Software development experience working with dynamic languages such as Javascript (Node.js), Python or Ruby and web frameworks such as React, Vue, or Angular.
  • Experience building and operating SaaS web applications

Location:

This position is designated as hybrid, based in our Boulder, Colorado office. Applicants should be able to commute to our Boulder location as required. #LI-Hybrid

Compensation and Benefits


The base pay range for this position is $200,000 to $220,000 annually. In addition to the base salary, the total compensation package includes bonus, equity, and benefits. Actual earnings may vary depending on the candidate's direct experience, skills, industry knowledge, and location.Sovrn offers a full slate of benefits from competitive salaries, stock options, medical, dental and vision coverage, short and long term disability, life insurance, 11 paid holidays, flexible vacation, commuter benefits, a 401(k) plan and match, and a paid parental leave program.
