We are looking for an experienced Senior Firmware Engineer. This role offers the opportunity to work on mission-critical systems, developing embedded firmware for aerospace applications such as spacecraft systems and avionics platforms. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including hardware engineers, software engineers, and system architects, to design, implement, and test robust and high-performance embedded solutions.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Firmware Development: Design, develop, and optimize embedded firmware for aerospace systems, including microcontrollers, FPGAs, and custom ASICs
- System Design: Collaborate with hardware and systems engineers to define firmware requirements, interface specifications, and design strategies for complex space systems
- Low-Level Programming: Write low-level drivers, bootloaders, and communication protocols (e.g., I2C, SPI, UART) for embedded systems
- Testing & Validation: Develop and execute rigorous test plans for firmware validation and hardware-in-the-loop testing. Ensure firmware meets performance, reliability, and safety standards
- Debugging & Troubleshooting: Use debugging tools (e.g., JTAG, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers) to troubleshoot, identify, and resolve firmware issues in the lab and during flight testing
- Compliance & Standards: Ensure all firmware development is compliant with industry standards such as DO-178C, RTCA/DO-254, and other aerospace certification guidelines
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with electrical, mechanical, and software engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of firmware into complex aerospace systems
- Continuous Improvement: Stay current with the latest developments in embedded systems, microcontrollers, and aerospace technology to drive innovation and best practices in firmware development

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in embedded firmware development, with a focus on aerospace or space systems
- Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to address project challenges
- Demonstrated time management and organization skills to meet tight deadlines and quality objectives
- Highly proficient in MS Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
Skills
- Strong experience with embedded systems programming in C and C++
- Proficiency in low-level hardware interfacing and debugging techniques
- Hands-on experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS) and embedded software development environments
- Solid understanding of hardware/software integration and electrical engineering concepts
- Familiarity with space-specific hardware, including radiation-hardened components, FPGAs, and microcontrollers
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task
Requirements
- Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation
