Electrical Controls Engineer Internship

We have a Controls Engineer Internship available in Hampton, NH. This position is responsible for controls equipment assembly requirements involving PLC panels, motor control equipment, and instrumentation panels. When time allows, the position will include control and HMI software development tasks, AutoCAD design, and other supporting engineering tasks for the Business Unit’s project work and internal development.

Major Responsibilities


  • Assemble electrical equipment per W-M standards and engineered drawings.
  • Read and understand electrical schematics and panel layout drawings.
  • Perform a print/part match by checking components for accuracy on the bill of material.
  • Perform proper layout of back panel components as well as enclosure-mounted components.
  • Locate components to ensure minimum manufacturer spacing requirements are met.
  • Maintain UL standards and NEC codes while building a control panel.
  • Properly label all components within the control panel.
  • Organize component literature for shipping.
  • Assist with preparing assembled equipment for system checkout.
  • Assist with daily equipment shipping/receiving responsibilities such as loading and unloading trucks and preparing tested equipment for shipment.
  • Maintain a clean and organized production area daily.
  • Develops schematics detailing control system configuration and wiring, and design equipment panel layouts using AutoCAD Electrical software.
  • Designs, develops, and implements control systems (logic software and hardware) to meet machine and integrated system requirements.
  • Develops control architecture and network architecture documents and provides network design including IP schemes and network switch configuration.
  • Develops control logic software and user interface applications in control systems, using hardware and instrument components, integrated with ladder logic programming, SCADA, RTU, and other IED programming. Has a strong familiarity with work with database tools such as SQL.

Minimum Requirements


Education


Documented progress toward an undergraduate (BS) in engineering.

Experience


  • Good employee interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated skill in working effectively with team members.
  • Familiar with the use of a personal computer for entering timesheets, expense reports, printing wire labels, etc. Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Working knowledge of all necessary safety requirements while working in assembly area.
  • Skill in identifying “non-standard” designs and recommending suggestions for layout, assembly, etc.
  • Basic use of hand tools (i.e., tape measure, square, screwdrivers).
  • Basic use of power tools (i.e., drill, jigsaw).

Physical Demands of Position


Seeing, color perception, hearing, clear speech, dexterity in hands, driving, climbing, ability to mount and dismount equipment, pushing and pulling.  Ability to lift 50 lbs. and stand on feet for long periods of time with standard breaks and lunch as required.

Working Environment


Equipment assembly environment. May be dust in the area from the type of equipment environment setting.  Both on-site and in office environment. Diverse industrial and Power Plant/Utility, switchyard environments with frequent PC usage, fax machines, copy machines, phones and constant people interactions.
