We have an Instrumentation Technician Internship available in Lubbock, TX. This position is responsible for hands-on inspection, cleaning, and calibration of Liquid Flow Meters at a Wastewater Treatment Facility and remote facilities used to supply potable drinking water to the residents of Lubbock.

Major Responsibilities


  • Read and understand the manufacturer's instrumentation procedures and instructions for cleaning, inspecting, and calibrating differential pressure transmitters and DCS indications.
  • Work, learn, and perform independently instrumentation technician tasks as directed by senior experienced engineers.
  • Be mature and perform to the expectations of the WM Engineering Leadership as well as the client – WWTF staff, operations, and administration.
  • Be responsible for documenting work time and administrative tasks performed in a clear and accurate manner with minimal instruction.  Be ready to learn about instrumentation, signals, variables, controls, methods of operations, physical variables, etc. to safely accomplish the assigned tasks.
  • Perform hands-on testing and evaluation of field instrumentation functionality and accuracy.
  • Document details of the inspection, note unsatisfactory conditions, and document NIST-certified calibration test data.
  • Learn proficiency in injecting physical process variables for differential pressure & adjusting instrumentation that is AS FOUND out of tolerance back into tolerance and collecting AS LEFT calibration data.
  • Inspect, clean, test, and adjust as necessary all other liquid flow measurement systems and report ALCOA (Attributable, Legible, Contemporaneous, Original, accurate test data neatly and in a timely manner.
  • Adheres to scope, quality, schedule, and budget requirements of assigned tasks
  • Develops collaborative partnerships with clients and colleagues
  • Superior communications, documentation skills, honesty & integrity, and ability to receive training and learn tradecraft connected to industrial measurement and controls technology.

Minimum Requirements


Education


AA in Engineering Technology or equivalent experience.  EE preferred but willing to train the right candidate.

Experience 

New graduate or returning underclass student with an interest in pursuing a career in Controls Engineering, Instrumentation or Electrical Engineering.
  • Preference is given to candidates with an understanding of or exposure to control systems - components, calibration, testing, troubleshooting, ladder logic programming, SCADA programming, and their applications but is Not Required.
  • Experience working with electricity, electronics, physics, pressure, temperature, level, or flow elements or instrumentation is strongly recommended.

Physical Demands of Position


Writing, computer work, variable travel amounts, fieldwork in industrial and or utility settings, seeing, color perception, hearing, clear speech, dexterity in hands, driving, lifting, climbing, and ability to mount and dismount equipment, pushing, and pulling.

Working Environment
