This position is remote eligible for up to 40% of the time. Hours are typically Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm. Must be flexible to meet current and future business needs.

Pay:


Starting Pay: $37.53 per hour  Pay Range: $33.20 - $41.86 per hour

Purpose:


Responsible for underwriting business loan requests that have a broad range of exposures and complexity and provide credit support to other members of Credit Risk, Business Banking and the Branches.

Accountabilities:


Underwriting

  • Underwrites business credit loan requests that cover all ranges of total related credit exposures which span those with limited to high-level complexity that originate from retail branches and relationship managers
  • Analyze financial statements, third party reports and industry data to complete written analyses of financial trends, cash flow, collateral and risk assessments of prospective and existing business members
  • Prepares Credit Memos which are submitted to Credit Approvers for decision
  • Collaborates with relationship managers to structure loan requests and help assess appropriate financial covenant and collateral structures. This may include joining relationship managers in meetings with customers and centers of influence
  • Provides back-up support for financial statement spreading
  • Conducts due diligence searches of UCC filings, legal filings, tax payment compliance, etc.
  • Conducts ad-hoc cash flow, collateral and covenant analyses
  • Completes annual financial reviews for critical vendors, broker-dealers, and custodians, and for condominium associations as needed
  • Provides back up support for the preparation of monthly variance reports for Lines of Credit with Borrowing Base advances
  • Maintains a good working knowledge of ESL’s lending policies and underwriting standards

Credit Administration & Portfolio Management

  • Works with the Manager and Portfolio Manager to evaluate risk trigger reports and close triggers that fire
  • Develops a solid understanding of the Portfolio Management System and Collateral-Based Review methodology
  • Decisions credit requests in accordance with credit authority
  • Develops expertise with ESL’s auto-decision underwriting procedures
  • Works with Manager and senior underwriters to improve loan processing efficiency and updates workflows and underwriting guidelines as requested
  • Identifies and recommends modifications to departmental procedures
  • Develops a deep understanding of ESL’s loan operating and supporting systems

Other

  • Assists Manager and other team members with ad-hoc reporting and special projects

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related academic discipline, or 4 years of directly related experience required
  • In addition, a minimum of 2 years of experience in commercial credit analysis required
  • Excellent analytical, planning, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Self-directed and self-motivated; must be able to address complex tasks with minimal guidance
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office
  • Demonstrates alignment with ESL’s Core Values, mission, vision, and purpose to help our community thrive and prosper

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Master’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration or related academic discipline
  • Experience underwriting Small Business Administration (SBA) loans.
  • Commercial credit analyst experience
  • Completion of formal credit training
