Position Summary:
The Senior Account Director is a strategic leader responsible for overseeing key client relationships, driving integrated marketing initiatives, managing project budgets, and leading a team of account professionals. This role serves as the primary point of contact for various clients, which may include public sector organizations such as small government agencies, educational institutions, and nonprofits, ensuring their marketing objectives are met with innovative and results-driven solutions while driving account profitability.
NOTE:
West Cary Group employees living within 30 miles of Richmond, Virginia will be required in-office once per week.
Role Qualifications:
- Must execute strategic and tactical planning and oversight to meet clients’ needs across portfolios
- Must have experience in managing and overseeing client partnership budgets and have a strong understanding of how to drive client account profitability
- Must contribute to new business opportunities, including ideation, research, and proposal preparation
- Proven ability to lead, mentor, and inspire a team of account managers, fostering professional growth, collaboration, and high performance across the team.
Position Responsibilities:
- Oversees strategic campaign planning for client portfolios, including development of tactical and creative project elements
- Establishes and manages program budgets and timelines to ensure overall profitability and achievement of financial targets
- Develops new opportunities to grow each client’s business through proactive relationship management, word-of-mouth referrals, and going above and beyond surface expectations
- Ensures client and internal team needs are met for in-flight projects and in support of new initiatives to drive profitability and growth
- Collaborates consistently and productively with the creative and digital teams to deliver high-quality, on-time marketing and communications solutions
- Collaborates with other senior account management staff to drive new initiatives within the account management department
- Leads, mentors, and inspires a team of account managers to support team member growth and success
- Contributes meaningfully strategic point of view on marketing trends and innovations along with ideas for applying these initiatives within client portfolios
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, advertising, public relations or related field, or equivalent job experience
- Seven to ten years of working in an advertising agency or corporate marketing experience and a proven grasp of marketing and advertising fundamentals
- A minimum of five years of management/supervisory experience
- Experience with digital and traditional marketing channels (digital media, social blogs, print, direct mail, TV, radio, point-of-sale), plus a demonstrated interest in performance marketing and driving outcomes for your client’s business
- Relationship management, project management, or process management experience is a must
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including presentation/pitch skills
- Proactive, solutions-oriented attitude
- Flexibility (i.e., the ability to handle tight deadlines and client changes on short notice)
- Ability to work independently and to function as a high-performing team member
- Constantly curious, always learning, and motivated to deliver the best creative product
- Commitment to bringing consistent thought leadership in support of each client’s marketing and communication needs
