About The Information
The Information is the go-to source of in-depth reporting for the most influential leaders in technology and business. Founded in 2013 and headquartered in San Francisco, our original, high-quality journalism has the power to inform the most consequential decisions shaping our future, and we’ve built a community of 700,000 active readers who depend on us to do just that. We have a financially healthy business, plenty of capital, and big ambitions to grow our team and business.
About the role
We’re looking for an ambitious, early-career journalist who wants to delve deeply into everything tech from one of the highest-energy newsrooms in the industry. You’ll come here eager to learn from our editors and veteran reporters and to collaborate with them.As a reporter for The Information’s Weekend section, you will mostly focus on front-of-book-style pieces and short features that examine the tech industry and the lifestyle and culture of the technorati (a fundamentally different task than covering “internet culture”).
You’ll write several times a month for Weekend, and you should have an endless supply of ideas; with the right ideas, you’ll have the opportunity to pitch and report bigger features, too. In addition, you’ll help write Weekend’s weekly newsletter, which has over a half-million readers, and assist Weekend’s editor in producing the weekly section. This position would be great for a tech reporter interested in honing their skills at magazine-style journalism and features—or a magazine journalist with reporting experience who has an abiding passion for technology and the ideas to illustrate it. The ideal candidate will be based in the San Francisco Bay Area. New York candidates will also be considered. We offer a flexible hybrid work model to provide a balance between in-office and remote work. To ensure effective collaboration and communication, employees are required to work in our San Francisco or New York offices three days a week.
Qualifications
- 2+ years as a journalist at a national publication (ideally one that covers the same world and people as The Information).
- New graduates with an exceptional background that shows internships at national publications and experience at their campus publication will be considered.
- An interest in covering the technology industry as well as the people within it.
- An ability to multi-task between short- and long-term projects.
