SUMMARY
The Compliance Manager position is a 1st level management position centrally focused on providing exceptional customer service while partnering with our clients to achieve and maintain regulatory compliance with multiple affordable programs and leading team members to do the same. It has the independence to work remotely, which allows directed focus while still being supported by and immersed in a company that is leading the affordable compliance industry.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Analyze potential risks to avoid compliance issues
- Assist with special projects as needed; other duties as assigned by supervisor or established in written processes/procedures
- Communicate and assist client partners with audit responses/corrections
- Communicate with client partners via telephone and/or email to answer their questions regarding affordable housing compliance program requirements
- Convey understanding of the comments and questions of others by listening effectively
- Coordinate with Human Resources for matters pertaining to performance management
- Develop team members’ knowledge and skills
- Establish and maintain good relationships with our clients, serving as first point of contact with two largest client partners and second point of contact for those assigned to team members and providing exceptional customer service
- Exercise common sense, good judgment, consistency, and self-control in day-to-day interactions
- Explore troubled areas for root causes and potential remedies
- Forecasts staffing needs
- Keep current on all updates and changes in affordable housing programs and requirements within assigned portfolio
- Lead and support a team of 6-8 Compliance Partners
- Maintain assigned Client Notes and approve adjustments to Site and State Notes assigned to team members
- Manage team members’ work balance, productivity, and performance
- Mentor, train, and support new leaders
- Participate in annual employee evaluations and periodic quality assurance controls to ensure full compliance with all regulatory and job requirements
- Participate in meetings with upper management, as needed or requested, to discuss departmental activity and review progress
- Provide guidance/training based on common correction requests to help client partners increase their knowledge of applicable requirements
- Provide thorough written communication to escalate certification deficiencies and other important information as appropriate
- Strategize with leaders and peers, making recommendations on how to improve tools, policies, and processes
- Talk and act with internal and external customers in mind
- Take ownership of assigned portfolio by being proactive, solution oriented, accountable, and committed to continuous improvement
QUALIFICATIONS
- A minimum of 3 years of compliance department leadership experience
- A minimum of 5 years of certification auditing experience in affordable housing across multiple programs and states
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Ability to apply reason, logic, and advanced problem-solving skills to resolve complex issues in a professional manner
- Ability to display a positive, enthusiastic attitude to motivate and coach staff
- Attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills
- Demonstrate flexibility to work well under pressure and a sense of urgency to successfully meet deadlines
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills including involvement with executive level communications
- Professional, clear and concise oral and written communication skills with proven ability to effectively communicate with diverse groups such as customers, supervisors, and teammates
- Self-starter and independent worker with the ability to work both individually and in teams
- Working knowledge of the requirements of the LIHTC and HUD Project Based and Public Housing programs (Not the Housing Choice Voucher Program).
- Working knowledge of the requirements of the RD, BOND, HOME, MFTE, HTF, and CDBG.
