*Typically, initial wage is set between the minimum and the midpoint of the salary range depending on the employee’s qualifications and experience.  Summary of Responsibilities:The Database Administrator is responsible for supporting SERS through continual research and analysis of database products, architectures, trends, and all activities involving relational database(s), windows failover clustering, and SQL availability group administration.  Supporting the application development efforts by proactively providing expertise in database design and implementation.

 Supporting the operational environment by ensuring appropriate policies and procedures exist to protect, secure, and administer data/databases and governance occurs accordingly. The Database Administrator will collaborate with key IT staff to administer and control activities related to the analysis of database requirements, data planning, data development, and data management. The Database Administrator will also collaborate with key IT staff to ensure consistency and integration with existing structure within databasesEssential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create, maintain, and update project plans for database administration work. 
  • Administer SQL and PostgreSQL databases on Windows operating systems.  
  • Advise on RDBMS structure and review database designs. 
  • Analyze and design data usage using data modeling techniques. 
  • Evaluate and approve system analysis and design for optimal database structure and access. 
  • Define, recommend, and implement database performance mechanisms. 
  • Develop the security architecture and plans for databases and data. 
  • Establish and maintain standards for databases, data, and data access. 
  • Coordinate activities involving database related product vendors.  
  • Establish policies and procedures for management, security, maintenance, and utilization of corporate databases and data. 
  • Design, develop, test, implement, maintain, and execute backup, archive, recovery, and loading strategies and procedures. 
  • Design, develop, test, implement, maintain and execute plans and procedures to protect and continue accessibility of data, including emergencies and disasters. 
  • Data Encryption 
  • Windows Cluster and SQL Server Always-On Process 
  • Develop budget requirements for maintenance support, upgrades, enhancements and additional database related tools. 
  • Automate Pension Administration System Operations (e.g., batch processing, post processing cleanup, etc.) to optimize their runtime and drive efficiency, including monitoring, and alerts. 
  • Evaluate Pension Administration System operational data growth (file systems, data base, etc.) and implement a technical solution to properly manage and limit data growth. 
  • Gain understanding of the Pension Administration System application eco-system (e.g., PlanetPress, Workflow, Imaging, SFTP, Centralized Printing, etc.) and take ownership for ongoing caring and feeding, including product lifecycle management.  
  • Perform troubleshooting activities that support the Pension Administration System business application performance, uptime, and related issues (e.g. code, SQL, PowerShell script, data fix, etc.). 
  • Proactively maintain database operability, including the implementation of physical views to optimize performance and eliminate data redundancy. 
  • Utilize ServiceNow to effectively track project time and manage ticket workflows. 
  • Conduct thorough research of data sources to enhance data feed quality and reliability. 
  • Monitor database size and space utilization to ensure optimal performance and prevent bottlenecks.  
  • Implement continuous monitoring and improvement strategies to enhance data performance and efficiencies. 
  • Employ appropriate software packages to safeguard data integrity and security. 
  • Mentor and train first and second-level help desk personnel on the use of software tools supporting database operations. 
  • Provide afterhours technical support as required by the needs of the organization 
  • Support third party software products and interfaces 
  • Other responsibilities as assigned. 

 The incumbent is required to: 

  • Carry cell phone with text messaging capabilities to respond to daily business needs. 

Education, Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in computer science or related field; or three to five years related experience and/or training with:
  • Expertise in managing MS SQL Server databases.
  • Knowledge or experience in C#, ASP.NET, JavaScript is a plus.
  • Exceptional troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities for database-related issues.
  • Three years’ experience with Power Shell or other scripting language. 
  • Three years’ experience in IT operation (FTP, batch etc.) management.

Working Conditions: 


This role operates in a professional office environment and is subject to prolonged periods of sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines and may need to be able to lift up to 10 pounds at times.   ERM staff members are eligible to work remotely 2 days per week, after training and 30 days of employment. Remote working days are not guaranteed and subject to change based on organizational needs.   Competencies:
