Summary of Responsibilities:
The Associate Counsel is responsible for researching and interpreting law, negotiating and drafting complex contracts, presenting legal matters to the Board, and providing legal advice to staff on system matters.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Research legal matters and prepare legal analysis.
- Draft and negotiate a range of business agreements used by SERS business units.
- Review RFPs and assist staff during the RFP process.
- Provide legal advice to SERS staff.
- Present matters to the Board as directed by the General Counsel.
- Liaison with outside counsel on legal issues.
- Resolve day-to-day legal matters.
- Attend hearings, meetings, conferences and reporting as assigned.
- Communicate to a range of audiences, including SERS constituents.
- Mentor and provide feedback to SERS staff counsel
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
Desired Educations, Skills, and Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) or equivalent from accredited law school,
- Admission to Ohio Bar
- 10 or more years related experiencewith;
- Ability to adapt and change behavior or methods of approach in rapidly changing environments.
- Demonstrated strong attention to detail skills through thoroughness and thought of work products.
- Capable of understanding situations and problems, by combining information. Able to identify patterns and connections conceptually and apply information to identify underlying issues in complex situations.
